Even if Manchester United will succeed in eliminating Chelsea FC from the UEFA Champions League, Carlo Ancelotti is confident in his stay at the club in London until the end of his contract. Previous managers have been for less reasons than a trophyless season, though he remains defiant and apparently assured that he will be able to see out the final 12 months of his current deal at least.

Novak Djokovic defeated world number one Rafael Nadal 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 in the incredible final of the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami on Sunday, a match that needed a third set tiebreak to decide the champion of the tournament.

Many consider that becoming a writer is a way of fulfilling one’s wish to become famous. British thriller author John Le Carre proves this is not the case for everybody by having asked judges to eliminate his name from the Man Booker International Prize shortlist. The reason behind his gesture was that he didn’t want to take part and, although admitting he felt “enormously flattered”, he said: “I do not compete for literary prizes.”

Vancouver has succeeded for the fifth time in a row to claim the first position in the list of world’s most liveable cities. With Melbourne on the second spot and Vienna on the third one, the rest of the top ten was dominated by Australian and Canadian urban residences.

The Champions League last-16 match last night brought a comfortable 2-0 victory for Chelsea at FC Copenhagen, taking the London team one step closer to the quarterfinals of the competition and easing the pressure on manager Carlo Ancelotti, after some unconvincing performances in the domestic league which pushed the English champions to the fifth position.
