The Weekend’s Film Favorites “Starring” Russell Brand

British artist Russell Brand is apparently enjoying a peak of success due to his roles in champ “Hop” and the newly released “Arthur” remake, which occupy the first two positions in the weekend box office in North America.
After registering a more than encouraging $38 million opening last weekend, the CGI/live-action hybrid “Hop” is poised to continue its reign, whereas “Arthur,” the other production in which Brand features in the iconic title role originated by Dudley Moore, should come next with a three-day sum in the $15 million to $17 million range.
This Friday brings three other new films in the form of the raunchy comedy “Your Highness,” the action-thriller “Hanna and the shark-vs.-surfer biopic “Soul Surfer”. Although experts have estimated the three productions to gross an overall amount ranging from $8 million to $12 million, there is no consensus on how they will ultimately rank.
“Hanna”, which has Saoirse Ronan, Cate Blanchett and Eric Bana cast in the leading roles, focuses on the young daughter of an ex-CIA agent who has been trained to become the perfect assassin. Being the only action movie, “Hanna” is expected to appeal to men of all ages. The medieval romp “Your Highness” stars James Franco, Danny McBride, Natalie Portman and Zooey Deschanel and aims at a young male audience. Targeted at teenage girls and their moms, along with faith-based moviegoers, “Soul Surfer” has Anna Sophia Robb, Helen Hunt and Dennis Quaid at the centre of the story, which is based on the real-life episode of young surfer Bethany Hamilton who lost her arm during a shark attack in Hawaii.
